AS220

AS220, a non-profit community arts space in Providence, Rhode Island, began as a group of rooms in an almost abandoned building. AS220 was a general gathering place for beatniks, artists, performers, and “tragically hip”. They gathered to share stories, ideas, coffee, and craft. Eventually, bands and artists were coming from all over the world to perform there. AS220 strives to provide an uncensored, unjuried forum for the arts. The services they provide include: residences for artists, labs, major record label boycotts, musical presentations, galleries, performance space, cutting sessions, print shops, photo labs, youth studio workshops, training school mentoring, life drawing workshop, print shop workshops, photo workshops, labs workshops, restaurant, bar, and fundraising services. It offers a living space that takes into consideration the artist’s income. In brief, AS220 provides opportunities to artists that lack the financial means to carry on their works.
