Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront is a non-profit organization founded in 2002. The initial goal of this organization is to support the families of deployed service members immediately following the 9/11 incident. As of the moment, it is active with 25 chapters serving all 50 states. Since the date of its foundation, Operation Homefront was able to raise more than $100 million dollars of funding programs and fulfilled over 41,000 requests from military families across the US. The key service of Operation Homefront is providing direct support to military families with financial burdens. The programs include financial assistance, emergency food, emergency home repairs, furniture and household items. Operation Homefront also manages community events and wounded warrior transitional family housing. There are many ways to donate to the organization. Car donations can be given through the in-kind gifts.

Elder Law of Michigan

Elder Law of Michigan (ELM) advocates for the rights, health and economic well-being of the elderly and disabled by providing them with legal and professional services. Founded as a non-profit charitable organization, it aims to make sure that adults are well-informed, have a dignified way of life and are economically stable as they age. Through the program Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors, ELM provides basic, personal legal advice to older adults in Michigan. Program was designed to address poverty, disadvantageous location, lack of transportation and remoteness. There are no costs for the program. Its Mid-America Pension Rights Project lends a hand to retirees in recovering pension benefits. It also assists in areas of non-cash benefits such as healthcare. ELM serves about 10,000 people in the state each year.

Blind Children’s Fund

Blind Children’s Fund (BCF) empowers visually impaired children to live in a world they can not visually perceive. It provides books, toys and learning materials, all of which were designed for the blind. The organization administers a lending library of children’s books in Braille — a place where the blind and professionals can borrow them for free. Through Energizer Batteries’ support, it makes available free hearing aid batteries and ships them to those in need. Shipping costs may also be waived. It offers Braille and printed quarterly newsletters that provide valuable information on raising a visually impaired child including articles, crafts, recipes, and featured books. BCF participates in the Recycle4Green program which allows supporters to contribute their no longer needed electronics e.g. cell phones and inkjet printer cartridges. V-DAC oversees its car donation program.

Arthritis Foundation — Michigan Chapter

The Arthritis Foundation is dedicated to helping arthritis sufferers live a normal life. With several chapters across the country, it aims to eliminate arthritis pain throughout the world. It is a foundation that is focused on research and public health. It is also active in areas such as individual assistance, awareness, funding research, and influencing public policy. Arthritis Foundation provides assistance to individuals with arthritis, families and caregivers. It offers information on over 100 types of Arthritis, as well as methods for relieving pain, including medical, non-medical, and nutritional methods. In brief, the organization helps people take control of Arthritis through public health education, and through pursuing legislation that benefit the cause, all of which help to improve the lives of those with the disease.

Lymphoma Foundation of America

Lymphoma Foundation of America is an organization that is dedicated to providing help and strength to lymphoma patients and their families. Founded in 1986 by people afflicted with lymphoma, it is the first lymphoma support group formed in the United States. Counselors offer “one-on-one” counseling not only to the cancer patients but to their families and friends who are caregivers. For a proper diagnosis, it refers patients to specialists for a second opinion. Lymphoma Foundation also sponsors special programs to improve the quality of life for cancer (Lymphoma) patients. Programs include Healing & Art Therapy and Support for Caregivers. All services offered by the foundation are free. It is funded by private donations, not drug companies. Supporters can donate their vehicles through V-DAC.

Food Gatherers

Food Gatherers is a food recovery and redistribution non-profit organization. It works in collaboration with restaurants and other food chains to collect excess and unused food, which it redistributes among the needy. Besides feeding the hungry, it aims to eliminate the causes of hunger as well as minimize food waste. Food Gatherers is the largest distributor of recovered food in the county, providing more than 10,000 meals per day. It works with more than 160 community programs, all of which help feed the needy. Food Gatherers also operates a Community Kitchen where volunteers help prepare and serve hundreds of people. It holds that every $5 donated provides 14 meals to those in need. Donors can support numerous meals by donating their no longer needed vehicles. It accepts car donations through Charity Motors.
